Sunflowers. 2019 Sunflower fields are part of the Ukrainian landscape. In summer they face the sun, yellow and full. That image is familiar to everyone.

I stopped at a field in December. The harvest was long over, but these plants had not been cut. What I found was different from the summer image, dried, bent, stripped of colour. But not empty.

There was a beauty here that no one stops to see. The season had passed, the field was forgotten. But in that stillness, each plant had its own form, its own posture. Something close to dignity.

I came back with a backdrop and photographed them directly in the field. Two years in a row, before the machines arrived.

This series is about the beauty that exists after. Quiet, unhurried, unseen.
